This weeks tip - Windows 10 Security in a post supported state
Windows 10 has just reached it's end of life. That means you will not be getting more security updates or feature updates. However, some will not want to upgrade or can't. So, how do you still keep using the system you like, without the security threats? Let's find out.
First, switch your browser to Firefox. Firefox will support Windows 10 far longer than Chrome, Edge or others.
Second, use a third party antivirus. Bitdefender is a good option. So is Avast. In fact, Avast still makes antivirus for Windows XP.
Third, make sure the firewall is turned on, you have app control on and memory integrity security on.
Fourth, use a security browser extension like Malwarebytes to add to your protection online, and use an ad blocker like adblock plus or ublock origin.
Finally, if you want to, or are able, you can make sure you have a Microsoft account and that you are signed into it. This will allow you to get extended security and critical updates for one year more. You can also pay $30 if you don't want a Microsoft account. You don't have to take this step. The other steps are more important, but if you already have a Microsoft account, and can get the updates for free, why not?
Please Note: Make sure you know what you're doing before following the above steps. Doing things incorrectly may break your system. Always consult a professional. Use at your own risk.
